Just because I have been devoting most of my time to building my new website, it doesn’t mean that I can’t go out and have some fun!
Yesterday afternoon, I was invited by my good friend Frosty to the Holiday Concert by The New Standards at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul.
In addition to The New Standards members Chan Poling, Steve Roehm and John Munson, there were a long list of guests, including: Lucy Michelle; Jeremy Messersmith; Arne Fogel; Mike Doughty; Aby Wolf; Chris Koza; Matt Wilson; Joesph Scrimshaw; The Cactus Blossoms; and Rupert!
I hope you enjoy these few snaps of their concert as much as I enjoyed being there.
Cheers!

For the last couple of weeks it seems that most of my waking hours have been spent working on a complete overhaul of my website. Lots of work, thousands of images to look through trying to find just the right ones that illustrate what I love to do. There have also been a few brutally honest reviews from friends that have made things better.
While it has been time consuming, I have really enjoyed going back and revisiting the images and more importantly the memories of the events and the people I have met.
Here are a couple previews from the new site!
I have heard that some people visit Hawaii to relax, just nobody that I know.
I arrive on the Tuesday before the race, which is late by some standards, but having shot the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon on Sunday it is the earliest I can arrive. After several years there, I have it pretty dialed in. I get picked up at the airport at 6:00; my scooter gets dropped off at the hotel at 7:00 and at 7:30 I meet friends for dinner. The next day, continues with media events and all that stuff.
From the athlete side, while there are only about 80 professional triathletes racing, this is the opportunity for almost 2,000 age group triathletes fulfill their dream of competing in the Ironman World Championship. They come from all over the world, with coaches, family members and an entourage, which they richly deserve.
As the week approaches race day the energy in the air definitely changes, with last minute preparations, planning pre-race meals and getting as much rest as possible.
The short version is that race day arrives, the canon fires, and for the next 17 hours these amazing athletes light up the Big Island’s Kona Coast.
The Pro’s have already gone back, eaten and showered by the time that many of the age group athletes are anywhere near the finish. I stayed at the finish line until the 5th Pro Woman had finished and then back to the hotel to edit and to post a gallery to Triathlete.com.
At 9:30 PM I headed back down Ali’i drive to the finish line. The finishers coming through had now been on the course for almost double the time of the winner! I was planning on staying 30 minutes, getting some context shots and then heading to bed!
The crowd was on fire. Instead of 30 minutes, I stayed 2-1/2 hours! Fabulous!
Here are a few snaps from the biggest party on race day, truly inspirational!

Two weeks ago I returned from shooting my 23rd triathlon of the year. In addition, in 2012 I shot 8 days of cycling, 7 running events, and 3 days of ski racing (not even to mention the herding dogs and other stuff). This adds up to about 75,000 air miles and a few thousand more in the car and on the motorbike. It has been a great year, getting to know truly amazing people, visit incredible venues and making a couple of cool photos.
Since I returned from Ironman Arizona, I have been spending all day, every day working on a complete overhaul of my website. I was really pleased with my old site when it was created in 2004, but it looks like it was created in 2004!
It think you will be pleased with the results, it is a big project but fun!
In the meantime, here are a couple of shots from Ironman Arizona that you might enjoy.
First a group shot of 2,465 Triathletes starting their day in Tempe Town Lake, look closely, everyone is smiling!
German Ironman rookie, takes home the win!
As a bit of a tease here is a shot from my new website (it will go live within a couple of weeks).
More soon (likely this afternoon!)
